Description

As an organization, we have learned that building and sustaining a Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) requires more than education it requires a culture that supports learning, mentorship, and shared ownership. This presentation highlights how Labdara Lithuanian Nursing Home (Labdara) has strengthened its BPSO capacity through staff engagement, leadership support, and champion development.
Like many organizations, Labdara has faced its own challenges in recruiting and sustaining BPSO champions due to staffing shortages, competing priorities, and limited opportunities for staff backfill during educational activities. In response, we have taken a flexible and collaborative approach to support ongoing participation and growth.
Experienced staff have played a key role in mentoring newer team members and encouraging them to maintain best practices. Leadership has remained visible and engaged throughout the journey, helping to reinforce accountability, celebrate progress, and maintain a shared vision for evidence-based practice. Staff have been encouraged to participate in learning opportunities such as workshops, webinars, conferences, and knowledge exchange events. In December 2025, Labdara was privileged to host its first in-person BPSO Champions Workshop and currently has 31% of staff across disciplines identified as BPSO champions.
To support long-term sustainability, interdisciplinary involvement has been fostered, participation in committee work is encouraged, achievements are recognized, and opportunities have been created for staff to contribute ideas and lead change initiatives. The focus has been on building commitment and ownership rather than compliance, helping staff view Best Practice Guideline (BPG) implementation as a shared responsibility.
Participants will learn practical strategies for developing champion capacity, strengthening staff engagement, and creating a culture where evidence-based practice can thrive. This presentation demonstrates that successful BPG implementation and building a strong champion network is not a short-term project, but an ongoing journey that depends on mentorship, collaboration, and sustained organizational support.
