Description

. Rationale

Successful implementation of evidence-based practices requires a culture of collaborative leadership, stakeholder engagement and comprehensive opportunity analysis. To launch the Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) initiative, leadership sought an inclusive strategy to assess baseline practices across transitions in care, pressure injury prevention, and people-centered care.

Purpose

To engage internal and external stakeholders in a comprehensive opportunity analysis, establishing a strategic, data-driven roadmap to prioritize and implement select Best Practice Guidelines (BPGs).

Methods

A multimodal engagement strategy was deployed across three BPGs. For Transitions in Care and Services guideline, a customized survey utilizing the GRADE assessment framework (Met, Partially Met, Unmet, Unknown)—was distributed to internal and external stakeholders. Findings were augmented through a high-engagement "Cultivating Change" community open house. Participants provided feedback using “Bingo-dabber” voting stations and qualitative comment boards. For Pressure Injury Management and People-Centered Care BPGs, an RNAO opportunity analysis tool was distributed electronically through clinical units and the Professional Practice Committee (PPC).

Results

The initial survey achieved a 50% response rate across diverse cohorts, including patients, family advisors, community partners, physicians, and staff. More than 100 participants attended the community open house. Data was synthesized into a color-coded "stoplight report" enabling the Steering Committee to identify gaps, avoid duplication, and prioritize quick wins."The subsequent internal surveys yielded a 34% response rate. Results were analyzed and presented through data visualizations and shared with governance bodies, including the Board and PPC, to support planning for an educational open house focused on identified opportunities.

Lessons Learned & Implications for Practice

Blending formal survey methodologies with interactive, low-barrier community events enhanced stakeholder feedback. While the customized survey required intensive upfront effort, provided clearer identification of practice gaps and priorities. Visual reporting tools support informed decision-making, and streamlined leadership judgement, ensuring resources are strategically allocated to high-impact clinical improvement opportunities.
